BioHealth Innovation, Inc. (BHI) and Montgomery County are pleased to announce the selection of Luis Gutierrez as a part-time “Executive in Residence”—a position dedicated to providing 1:1 technical assistance to Montgomery County-based biotech and medtech startups.
Gutierrez will join Executive in Residence Jen Butler, who was announced last month. Together, Butler and Gutierrez have already started outreach to Montgomery County’s smaller lab buildings and shared workspaces to identify early-stage life sciences companies that may have flown under the radar during the pandemic.
“We have seen significant growth in life sciences over the last three years. However, we can’t stop cultivating our early-stage biotech start-ups and entrepreneurs,” said Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich. “There are few places in the nation that can compete with the life science infrastructure, talent, and assets we provide to companies in this industry. We are proud to have a seasoned professional like Mr. Gutierrez join us in this mission.”
Bethesda-based Gutierrez is an expert in helping novel technologies make the transition to commercial success. He currently serves as an independent consultant to medical product companies as well as to investors who are active in the biopharmaceutical, medical product, and life sciences markets.
Previously, Gutierrez served as Chief Commercial Officer of Veranex, Inc., and as President, CEO, and Board Member of Theranostics Health (now TheraLink Technologies), a start-up molecular diagnostics company that provides proteomic testing services to oncologists, academic institutions, and the biopharmaceutical industry. Between his tenures at Theranostics Health and Veranex, Gutierrez served for five years as an Entrepreneur In Residence with BioHealth Innovation and the National Institutes of Health, so this marks a return to BHI.
